Cleaning robot with AI, AR glasses and VR helmet for streaming: finalists of the fourth set of 5G incubation from MTS

MTS Startup Hub has introduced the results of the fourth set of the technology incubation program, which started in March 2022. Five startups in AR/VR technologies, unmanned vehicles and machine vision became the finalists. Let’s talk about how we have improved the projects during the program and what will happen to them next.

What is MTS StartUp Hub incubation?

Incubation from MTS StartUp Hub is a program for finalizing and testing digital products using 5G and edge computing technologies, MTS expertise, and investments. We implement the best solutions for graduates in the infrastructure of large companies in Russia. MTS also helps startups distribute services to their business clients and partners.

The fourth set of the program focused on projects in AR/VR technologies, holograms, XR platforms, unmanned vehicles, and the digital industry. More than 90 startups from all over Russia took part in the selection. 14 of them entered the program.

For 4 months, together with MTS experts, teams have worked on their solutions in MTS 5G test zones deployed in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod. Five projects in AR/VR technologies, unmanned vehicles and digital industry made it to the finale.

What projects have been developed and how?

Virtual and augmented reality

AR glasses by PIME. The gadget displays video instructions, flowcharts, installation and assembly instructions, training and navigation information, and also allows video communication with a remote specialist.

Together with a startup, we tested the glasses on a 5G network, overclocked them to a speed of 210 Mb/s with a ping of 24 ms. And now they provide the transfer of information from industrial information services or remote specialists in real time with minimal delay.

The working prototype of the gadget comprises a display, sensors, a 5G communication module and a battery.

Calculations are carried out on the MTS platform. In 2023, PIME plans to launch the production and assembly of AR glasses from Russian components at the Alfa-M Research and Production Company in Ryazan and JSC NPO GOI in St. Petersburg. The cost of the gadget will depend on the configuration and will start at 40,000 rubles.

A platform for streaming virtual content to a mobile VR helmet in real time from Varwin. The technology works like a cloud gaming system and allows you to play complex VR apps with the best picture quality anywhere with 5G coverage. By moving data processing to an edge computing platform, the team could stream on inexpensive VR headsets with high-quality optics, but a weaker processor. The technology will be useful for large enterprises and training centers that use VR technologies for corporate training.

VIRSIGN.RCS is a complex for remote control of industrial equipment in virtual reality. The solution allows the operator to remotely control an industrial crane and perform delicate and dangerous work from a safe location. With the help of 5G, the startup was able to achieve the effect of total immersion: the operator controls the crane with his hands without using joysticks, and the crane executes commands without delay.

Unmanned vehicles.

The Cleanbotics team has created an AI cleaning robot for industrial premises. It can clean rooms up to 1500 m²/h , change water, dispense cleaning products and recharge the battery without human intervention. The high data transfer rate in 5G networks (240 Mbps) made it possible to broadcast a video stream in maximum resolution from the robot’s video camera lens to the EDGE peripheral computing platform and back in real time.

Machine vision.

The Smart Resource startup was created by MTS StartUp Hub residents to build a 3D model of microscopic objects in real time. The use of 5G networks and the EDGE computing platform made it possible to read and process a large amount of images from the microscope at a minimum time. Powerful EDGE computing resources process data received via the 5G network from a digital microscope and provide the operator with a finished 3D object in real time. The main differences between Smart Resource and its competitors are non-contact, high processing speed and low cost.

What will happen next?

The next step will be piloting startup solutions on the infrastructure of MTS and large industrial enterprises. If successful, companies will be able to scale their solution and enter into a long-term contract with MTS business clients and partners.

How to get into the incubation program?

We currently do not have an open enrollment program. But if you want to refine your digital product using 5G technologies and deploy an application on an edge computing platform, follow the news here and in our telegram channel.
